Smallpoppy stretched out in the sunlight, striding towards a place that she really liked to nap in. The she-cat flopped down happily on the smooth, flat rock near the edge of camp. Actually, it was usually used as a guard station, but... well, she was tired, and it was a remarkably warm day. The sun was shining brightly on her pelt, and a heavy purr left her body as she splayed out over it. Hunger gnawed at her belly, but she knew the warrior code. The hunting patrols had only just come back, and the apprentices were still doing their duties. She had to wait. Until then, her sunbath would be fine.
Her tail swished slowly behind her, and she closed her eyes. The deputy began to fall into that state of half-consciousness where cats looked like they were asleep, but were actually perfectly aware of everything around them. She was relaxing, and looked awfully cute doing that, but warriors didn't really have a concept of human 'cute'ness outside of kits. And that was more of an 'aw, it's small, let's protect it!'. Which, actually, would have been a fairly acceptable ideology for her, but the fact remains. Her purrs filled the air, and she was undoubtedly in a wonderful state of contentment.

Cactusheart padded into the camp, his fur was wet and muddy. He had just finished fishing and on his way back he slipped and fell into the mud. In his mouth was two rather plump looking fish. He set them down in the pile before letting out a very loud yawn. Although he was tired he liked to get up early and hunt before all the other cats decided to. Cactusheart spotted Smallpoppy lazily splayed out. She was a beautiful cat with her cream markings and bright blue eyes but Cactusheart rarely made an effort to talk to her. Had she even organized patrols today? He hadn't been assigned to one and the border patrol still had to check the thickness of the ice before the apprentices were allowed to leave. He padded up to her and nudged her with his paw. "Smallpoppy." He said in his usual gruff tone. "Have you organized patrols yet?" He asked her. He really didn't want to talk to anyone right now. He just wanted to wash the mud out of his pelt and go back to sleep. Word Count: 184 Notes: Late response again What a surprise Tags: aspenheart

She rolled over to face him, opening her eyes. The quiet purr in her throat ceased. "Yes, Cactusheart, I have. I know you've been vying for my position, but I'd appreciate if you didn't question me. You're supposed to be on--" A yawn cut the deputy off. "Uh, you're on guard duty from sunset until moon-high, but if you really want to, you can go out on the first hunting patrol, once the dawn patrol returns." Her tone wasn't snarky, more affectionate. In any case, no cat could say she wasn't thorough... but it was very likely she'd have forgotten all that by sun-high, if she was left to her nap. The deputy sat up, looking at the... much larger tom. "If I'm not worried, Cactusheart, neither should you be."Cactusdognah it's alright

"Hardly." he said suppressing a growl. "I'd rather not spend my whole day organizing things and dealing with mouse-brains like yourself." he said rolling his eyes, although he knew he would make a decent deputy it wasn't a position he wished for as he was quiet content being a warrior. "Also Creekclan has never had a tom-cat deputy or leader and I don't see that changing anytime soon." In Creekclan there were many strong willed and tough she cats and most of the toms weren't given as much respect and were expected to do most of the tedious tasks and chores. "Maybe you should've assigned patrols the day before or sent out the morning border patrol out before noon." He said his ears twitching in annoyance. Although Smallpoppy was an attractive she that didn't make up for the fact that she was an annoying dim-witted mange pelt. "I don't know if I trust your judgement enough not to be worried." He said growing even more annoyed. She had been deputy only a little over a moon and she was already starting to slack. Swanstar had tragically died at the gun of a hunter which was very unfortunate but it was something that often happened even to young cats. She was a great leader and brought many new cats into the clan. Her only big mistake was not training them to take the proper precautions around hunters. Word Count: 236 Notes: - Tags: aspenheart

Her teasing purr dropped, and she rose up to her full height. Admittedly, not as large as him, but still in an effort to make her look dominating. "I sent the patrol out as soon as the sun rose, Cactusheart. You're right, there never has been a male deputy or leader -- and the way you're speaking to me seems to justify as to why." Her whiskers twitched in an amused smile, and the flicked an ear. "If you're just going to keep bothering me, perhaps you could go look for them." Of course, she didn't plan on telling him that they'd already come back, and so had the hunting patrol. She wasn't even going to tell him that he thought it was much earlier than it was. "If that's all, clean your pelt and leave me be."Cactusdog

"There hasn't been a male deputy because you she-cats are too proud! And the toms while they do all the work are too afraid to stand up for themselves. I know you're scared. Scared that I will be the one to take your position because I stand up for myself." He said with a snarl. "If you can't find them you should stop laying around licking yourself and do your job." He said his ears and tail twitching irritably. "My pelt's only dirty because I was out providing for my clan while you're laying about licking yourself." Cactus heart often woke up early to hunt and help out around the clan and it really annoyed him when cats like Smallpoppy would slack of napping all day long all the while insulting cats who do. Most toms in Creekclan never got any respect no matter what they did for their clan they were always walked on and treated as lesser beings. "Anyways I have actual work to do. Goodbye Mangepelt." He said before stalking off angrily. He had to help patch a hole in the elders den. Rock heart had been complaining about it for awhile. It probably made is joints ache. Smallpoppy was seething, but she didn't dare pick a fight. As much as she wanted to take her claws out on something, she figured it was just his fragile ego talking. That thought calmed her, and she laid down again, visibly unphased by his words. If she became angry, she thought, then he would win. The deputy stretched out, smoothing down her fur again, letting herself bask in the sunlight. It was a lovely day nearing the end of Leaf-fall, and she was going to enjoy it, with or without his approval. Smallpoppy knew that she did her duties -- she went on patrol, and she organized them. She never ate without making sure everyone else had. Perhaps she'd rather not patch up holes in dens, but she'd bring plenty of fresh moss to keep them warm while another cat did. The fact remained that she had nothing to prove to him, because she was the deputy and he was not. So, the ragdoll went back to lazing about, feeling quite sure that she deserved it, seeing as her belly was rather empty as well, and once again let her eyes slide closed, every thought of Cactusheart completely gone from her mind.
