Oak was a brown tabby tom born to Scorch, a kittypet who insisted she was a rogue, and Rust, a powerful rogue who was not part of the main group. He was born with two littermates -- one, born much too small, who died just hours after birth, and another. The other was a pure white tom called Cloud, with pale blue eyes. Oak himself had two extra toes on each foot. His father called them blessings, but his mother called them abominations. Scorch abandoned the family when Moortail died, and then it was up to Rust to keep his sons in line. Oak and Cloud were the best of friends, but they were kind of troublemakers. Cloud was absent-minded and felt himself drawn to the mountains, chasing leaves on the breeze and having strange dreams. Oak, on the other hand, was drawn to climb and fight. His extra toes gave him advantages when he did these things. After Minnow formed her clan and Pine expressed his outrage, Oak ended up in a scuffle with Robin, leaving the other cat with a seven-toed scar on his flank. After the formation of ThrushClan, Cloud had a dream.
He dreamt of four great cats sitting on a great pile of rocks beneath the stars, with many others gathered below their feet. He dreamt of cats with stars in their pelts telling him to atone for the sins of his ancestors. When Cloud awoke, he informed Oak that they needed to start a clan as well. They journeyed to the mountains, and found a complex series of caves. There was little prey here, but whenever Cloud discovered a cave with walls of ice, he knew that this was the place. The stars glittered in the walls, and he felt his ancestors speaking to him here. This was where he became the first medicine cat of the clans, named Cloudstreak. The next morning, he brought Oak to this place. The stars renamed him Pebblestar, and he marked these caves as PebbleClan.
Many moons after this, Pebblestar met a pale cream she-cat who called herself Dawn. She became Dawnleap, the first deputy of PebbleClan, and birthed his only litter of kits. Other rogues and kittypets joined, and even a small band of cats who claimed to have come from another group of caves, far away. They taught them how to climb smooth rocks with just their claws, and how to hunt great prey like hawks and vultures to make up for the little they’d find otherwise.
To this day, PebbleClan has the closest connection to StarClan. They bring every new warrior to the Mooncave, and it is the stars who choose their medicine cat apprentice. PebbleClan are known for being thin, wiry climbers with strong claws and quite a lot of multi-toed cats. The first hunting season, PebbleClan was the best prepared. Their cats were far from the killing rocks, and their medicine cats learned how to heal the more mild of the wounds. They taught each other how to hide in deep caves during hunting season, and to only go out at midday or midnight. They shared these secrets with the other clans during the first gathering after the massacre.
