It hadn't taken long for Birchstrike to make her way to The Moon-cave. It hadn't taken long for her to travel there and the sun was still high in the sky when she first step paw in the dark narrow cave. She had gone alone she insisted upon it. She just wanted to be alone with her thoughts as she walked across the territories. She had never been to the cave before. The only reason she knew where it was was because Pinetstar had pointed it out to her at a gathering once. The horrible image of his bloodied body filled her head she shivered. Maybe she would see him...Oh how she would love to see him again and promise him she'd do as good as he did leading the clan. She wished she could tell her brother how sorry she was...for not protecting him like he did her. She padded through the long narrow cave the stone feeling like ice. As she got further she noticed that the walls seemed to sparkle. Soon the cave opened up into an area the size of the elders den. The cave seemed to have stars on the walls. She had never seen something so amazing. She padded up to the wall and noticed that they were alive. "Wow..." She breathed and the light of the creature went out. She gasped, did I kill it? she wondered. soon it began to glow again. Maybe I scared it? She padded to the middle of the cave and looked towards the ceiling. Time to stop wasting time, I came here to get my lives. Nine cats of StarClan took steps forward, each one prepared to greet her and give her a leader's lives. Many more sat off to the side, and it was Lucky who sat farthest away. He felt something overcome him, a pressure deep in his soul. Slowly, he got up, the wisps of stars in his shapeless pelt drifting closer towards them. He greeted one of the cats standing there, waiting for her, and gently pressed his nose to hers. "If... you do not... mind it," the tom wheezed, "I... would like... to do it... instead."So, she stepped aside, drifting back into the crowd of cats as they awaited Birchstrike to appear. While they waited for her to greet them. Nine cats stood here, ready to give her the lives of a leader. The first was Pinestar. Second, stood her mother. Beside her stood Talltalon, a friend from moons ago. Then was Moonkit, another littermate who had died of chill. Her fifth life would be given by Birdsong, her mentor. Then would be Maplepaw, a poor apprentice who had never gotten to become a warrior. The seventh life was to be a queen who lost her life kitting -- named Littleheart. That left the eighth to Lucky, and finally, as with every tradition, Timberstar as the ninth. Forming a half-circle, they waited. This was their time. Cactusdog

Birch strike saw before her a brilliant forest, it looked like it was new-leaf and there was a freshness in the air. The whole place seemed to glow around her. In front of her stood nine cats with stars in their pelts, the most notable of which was a starry almost faded cat a brown shaggy looking tom. Her head turned to see her brother. "Timber!" she ran to him. She brushed against him resting her head on his neck. He felt...cold... "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you..." she let out a ragged breath. Star clan was different than she expected it to be. It was so much like home, she thought it'd be wispy and soft looking. She wondered how many more times she's come back here before using her final life. She hoped often...She wanted to see Timberstar again she loved him...Almost more than anything. Timberstar nuzzled his sister. "It's alright... it was my time," he whispered, nudging her gently. "But now it's yours. Go on, stand in the middle. It's Pinestar's turn first."
Slowly, the tom slipped over to her, dipping his head to greet her. "I am a leader from ages past. I followed cats of StarClan when your ancestors arrived here. Birchstrike, I am here to give you your first life. This life I give you is the life of free-thinking. With this life, I teach you to lead your clan strongly, without questioning yourself or relying upon others." He leaned forward slightly to press his nose to hers, recalling how fiercely it hurt, being bestowed with a fractal of another cat's soul. Every life given was the StarClan cat giving them a part of their essence, and that part died when the cat lost that life. He decided not to tell her that, as Greynose, her mother, prepared to step forward. She wouldn't move until Birchstrike had recovered from receiving the life from Pinestar. She still wore the wound that led to her death -- the deep gouge from the badger's paw, tearing half of her face away. The wound that left pieces of bone on the ground beside her. It was a horrible and gruesome wound, but one that she was proud of. She had died protecting her clan. Cactusdog Cactusdog

Birchstrike nodded and walked back, she pushed away her grief. I will see him again "I am a leader from ages past. I followed cats of StarClan when your ancestors arrived here. Birchstrike, I am here to give you your first life. This life I give you is the life of free-thinking. With this life, I teach you to lead your clan strongly, without questioning yourself or relying upon others." Birchstrike dipped her head, it felt hot receiving the life like a fire had entered her belly. She gasped for breath it felt like every breath she had every taken was stolen from her lungs. She shuddered as she caught her breath. She never knew that receiving lives would hurt so much, she felt dizzy from the shock of it but quickly regained composure and looked back at the assembly of starry cats. Who's next? She thought to herself, what would she gain with her next life? Within the crowd of cats she barely noticed her, the gray tabby she with her crystal blue eyes identical to hers. She had died early into Birchstrike's apprenticeship and the memory of her face had faded from her own memory. "Mother."Word Count: 198 Notes: Sorry for the late response I've been busy Tags: aspenheart

The she-cat purred happily. "Birchstrike, my daughter... I hope my appearance doesn't bother you too much. Your brother was upset at first, but clearly, he kept his wound as well," she said softly, gesturing to him. "Many of us choose to keep the wounds that brought our deaths. Now then... Birchstrike, it is my duty to give you your second life." She stepped forward, smiling at her daughter. "The life I give you is the life of motherhood, so that you may love all of your clan like a mother loves her kits." Despite her docile appearance, she knew that this fraction of her soul would burn brighter than the hottest flame. The fiery rage of a mother protecting her kits was something that you had to experience to understand. It was an emotion stronger than death. Talltalon stepped up to the plate, knowing his turn would come next. Cactusdog
