Cloverheart was bored. The young warrior was out on patrol, but still she was unimpressed. Nothing interesting had happened lately, and she was secretly hoping that maybe they'd run into another clan or those rogues she'd heard about. She would love to brush up on her skills and really wouldn't mind getting sassy with some other cats.
The she-cat was about to finish her section of the dawn patrol when she noticed a dip in the ground up ahead. She took a whiff of the air and an unfamiliar scent hit her nose. A badger! Cloverheart realized, seeing the creature poke its head out of the ground for a quick second. She'd heard about them all the time, but never encountered one herself.
"Guys! Come look at what I found!" Cloverheart called back to her clanmates excitedly. "A badger!"

It seemed as though Cloverheart was just buzzing with energy on the dawn patrol. Snakejaw was cursing, dragging his feet, still attempting to shake sleep away from him. They didn't have much longer to go. Just a little bit more stretch of forest and then they were back at the camp. Snakejaw deserved a nap. A long one. His mind was drifting towards the promise of sleep when suddenly Cloverheart was yelling excitedly. About a badger.
A badger. Snakejaw picked up the pace and went to her side. Sure enough there was a badger right in front of him. The tom woke himself up and stood tall. "Ah, there's no need to worry about Cloverheart. I'll take care of it." He'd never fought a badger before, but that wasn't going to stop him from protecting this pretty little she-cat. He wondered why she was so eager to see the creature though. It was a badger. A badger.

"All by yourself?" Cloverheart replied to Snakejaw as the tom told her he could take care of it. She knew he was probably capable of getting rid of the badger, but she wanted to experience one for herself. She thought of all of the different ways she could attack. Maybe she should have paid a little more attention as an apprentice when her mentor mentioned badgers, because for a second she was unsure.
"Two cats are always better than one right? And it could be a great learning experience." The she-cat meowed, flexing her claws in the dirt as she studied the animal. It actually looked kind of cute. But she was cautious, as she knew these creatures could put up a fight.

Snakejaw huffed and shook his head. "No, no just stay back. Wouldn't want you hurting yourself." The tom had absolutely no experience with badgers. He's heard about them and has seen what they can do but that was always from a distance. Still, the prideful Thrushclan tom took a few steps forward towards the creature.
The black and white animal let out a hiss, causing Snakejaw to retreat slightly. His hair stood up on end, and he thought that maybe he'd let Cloverheart jump in. Maybe. He could do this though. Totally. The badger was now a little bolder, coming out from it's hole. It was very clearly going for the offense, hissing up a storm as it closed the distance between them. "Or uh- maybe. Perhaps you can help in a way." He nudged her. "I'll distract it."

Cloverheart frowned when Snakejaw told her to stay back. She knew that she could help, but then again she didn't know much about a badger. Maybe she'd let stand to the side just this once, and observe so she'd know what to do later.
"I guess. I'll just sit here and look pretty," Cloverheart meowed, her voice laced with sarcasm. The she-cat watched as Snakejaw approached the badger, and how it quickly it made its way towards the warrior. Her eyebrows raised in surprise at how fast it was, and how loud it was hissing at them.
"Or uh- maybe. Perhaps you can help in a way." Cloverheart's ears perked up as Snakejaw gave her a nudge. Those were the words she was hoping to hear.
"I like the sound of that." She flexed her claws in the dirt, ready to strike after the tom would draw away the badger's attention.

Snakejaw got the badgers attention, bringing the creature fully out of it's hole. It charged towards him, an angry spew of sounds coming from it. The only thing Snakejaw knew for certain about badgers was that their bite was nothing to mess around with. Despite it's size the badger could do quite a bit of damage to him if he wasn't careful. He kept his dancing, dipping and dancing away from the creature as it came at him.
"Now would be a great time for you to step in Cloverheart." He batted his paw at the badger's head, keeping it from getting too close with it's teeth.

For a moment, Cloverheart was distracted by Snakejaw's dance with the badger, the two of them spinning around each other quickly. But her thoughts were quickly disrupted by the tom urging her to her attack.
Cloverheart quickly sprang at the badger, going for its face. She knew that if she was able to at least blind the creature temporarily, it would be easier for the both of them to get in some good hits. Then, hopefully, it would retreat, and learn not to stray onto Thrushclan territory again.
Her hit wasn't very hard, as she was a small cat. But it was able to turn the badger's attention away from Snakejaw for a moment. "Your turn!" she howled, now ready to distract it in hopes the bigger cat could deliver a more damaging blow.

Snakejaw was relieved to have a moment of rest. He watched as Cloverheart quickly sprang into action, seeing her chance and taking it. She landed a hit on the badger which seemed to surprise it before it directed it's attention to her. It seemed to be blinded, shaking it's head in an attempt to fix it's vision. The tom managed to regain a bit of stamina and decided to attack whilst the badger was occupied with it's attention directed towards Cloverheart.
With his claws unsheathed, Snakejaw gave the badger a good swipe across it's side. With his size, there was more power behind his hit than Cloverhearts. His claws dug just a little bit deeper, leaving the badger with a shallow wound. Nothing too serious. It was only meant as a warning in all. It let out a cry of pain and mean-tempered creature seemed to begin it's retreat. The badger was now on defense and it seemed Snakejaw was just a little too close. He narrowly avoided the blunt of the badger's claws, leaving with a small scratch.
"Think you could get him once more?" He eyed Cloverheart curiously. She was small but quite fast. It seemed all there needed to be done was one more blow before the badger finally got the hint and would turn tail and retreat.

Cloverheart watched eagerly as Snakejaw took his turn, delivering a solid blow to the badger's side. It was a good hit, the badger reeling in pain. However, it soon rebounded and headed for the warrior, but he was able to get out of the way, barely getting hit by the creature's claws.
"I got you Snakejaw!" Cloverheart meowed to her clanmate as she swiftly took a stance to strike again. She planned to get the badger's opposite side, which was now exposed as it lunged after the tom. She dashed over, leaping towards the badger with her claws out. She raked it down the side, before falling off.
Oof! she landed on her back, rolling over to get away from the badger as fast as possible. "Did it work?" she asked, glancing back at Snakejaw.

It seemed the badger had had enough of messing with the two of them. It decided it simply wasn't worth the trouble and scurried off into the underbrush, hopefully as far away from Thrushclan territory as possible. Snakejaw let out a sigh of relief and turned towards Cloverheart now that their threat was neutralized. It was a miracle they got through that on their own and with little to no injuries. His cheek stung a little but the scratch was only cosmetic. It'd heal and be as good as new soon.
"It worked." He gave her a crooked smile. His pride got the best of him at the beginning but Cloverheart proved herself to be a formidable opponent. He knew she was someone he'd be able to lean on in a tense situation. "Good job there Cloverheart. You did your part well. I'm just- you know a little rusty. Any other day you wouldn't have had to lift a paw. Let's head back to camp and report this."

Cloverheart's breathing slowly started to calm down as she watch the badger retreat. She could not believe the two of them were able to drive out the creature all on their own. This was certainly something she was going to brag about to the other cats back at camp.
"That was awesome, Snakejaw!" She purred, returning the tom's smile. This was a total confidence booster for the already eager young she-cat.
"Any other day you wouldn't have had to lift a paw."
"Oh pfft. You're thankful I was here to help" she replied, enjoying their banter. "So, we gonna exaggerate our story a little or what?" Cloverheart asked, excited to share their heroics with the clan, hoping they wouldn't be angry the two warriors decided to take on a badger by themselves.

Snakejaw sent the tiny she-cat a smirk. "Of course we are. No story is told without a little bit of exaggeration here and there." He began to head back in the direction of the camp, keeping his steps small so Cloverheart wouldn't fall behind. He'd have to keep an eye on her, hoping she wouldn't go off finding more trouble for the two of them before they reached the camp. "You sure make things interesting Cloverheart. We've got to do this again sometime, hopefully without a badger in the mix." He hummed, the company was truly great despite the circumstances.

Cloverheart nodded, a smirk on her face. I'm gonna tell them it was big as a monster! the she-cat thought to herself, hoping it would at least trick some of the younger cats. She followed Snakejaw back to camp, her tail swishing excitedly. She couldn't wait to tell everyone what the two of them had accomplished, and even brag a little.
"Sounds good to me. Maybe we'll take on a fox next time?" Cloverheart happily meowed back to Snakejaw. She dipped her head to show respect before turning to head over to the medicine cat's den to make sure she was all good.
notes: yay that was fun!
