Slatekit yawned blinking his eyes open as the world around him came into focus. He sat up blinking Morningkit and Mudkit were still sleeping right beside their mother Bitterenflower. She slept peacefully her chest rising and falling. Slatekit padded towards the exit of the den sitting down and curling his tail around his small fluffy body. He watched as cats began to stir, a few cats were already up, warriors preparing for dawn patrol he presumed. The air was chilly and it made him long to curl back up with his siblings and mother but it was so peaceful here. It was so quite that he could hear the distant call of a bird far outside camp. He could see the large frame of Timberstar as he awakened likely to join the patrol or handle other clan affairs or perhaps he was just used to waking up so early. "Hmm," He watched the cats as they left for the patrol. Some of them had a rather gaunt appearance their ribs jutting out of their sides he could see hunger and weariness in their eyes; Leafbare had seemed to be setting into the already thin Dogclan warriors. Dogclan was known for their speed and stealth and were generally light weight and agile rather than strong and beefy like Duskclan and Pebbleclan warriors. Duskclan was always well fed and Pebbleclan cats had strong haunches for climbing the rocky mountain in which they lived on and in. Sometimes he wondered what it'd be like to live in another clan they all seemed so strange to him, but perhaps when he was an apprentice and went to gatherings he'd begin to understand them. She could have slept forever, wrapped in the warmth of her family and the sounds of familiarity. Shifting in her sleep every now and then in search of the most comfortable position, she soon found one of her hind legs slipping out from beneath her. Expecting her paw to press against the short fur of one of her brothers, confusion upon finding no one caused her to stir. Ever so slowly, she managed to pull her small head off her paws, brownish green eyes peeking out as her eyelids cracked open.
A yawn stretched apart her jaws, flashing small yet sharp teeth. Morningkit turned her head, twitching her ears as she struggled to find her brother without opening her eyes all the way. She gave in and blinked them open before continuing her search. Focusing her attention on the shape of another kitten at the mouth of the nursery, the calico pushed herself to her paws, careful not to wake her other brother or mother. She stretched as she stepped forward, dragging her hind paws as she pulled herself toward the tabby. "Slatekit?" She mumbled, taking a seat next to him just as another yawn broke through her mouth.
"... What'cha lookin' at?"

Slatekit took in a deep breathe feeling the moisture in the air. The smell of grass and pine was strong although not many pine trees were on the moor the dampness brought out their smell. He nearly toppled over as a voice boomed in his ear he whipped around seeing Morningkit a beautiful calico she cat, his sister. "Just looking..." he said. "I didn't want to wake you, but I just wasn't tired." he said. He glanced back at Bitternflower and Mudkit. Mudkit was curled up by his mother's stomach his floppy ears were an oddity for sure and it made him look as if he was from an entirely different litter. Slatekit yawned, it was still early and the sun was barely risen. He wasn't quite sure what had drawn him out of his nest in the first place, perhaps it was the soft murmurs from outside the den or the light seeping from the thin sheet of clouds or perhaps he was just anxious whatever the reason he was up now. Mudkit, himself, was snoring loudly as he slept against his mother. His ears twitched everytime he breathed in, causing them to bounce a bit up and down with this movement. His tail was puffed up and curled against his body, and the kitten was happily sleeping by his mother. Bitternflower, on the other hand, was now awake and watching her kits with a rather nervous expression to her eyes, which was normal for the jumpy cat. Her tail was twitching lightly, and the rather empty nursery seemed to cave in around her. It felt odd to be so alone with her kits, but then once again, she could only think of their father. Their rogue father. Lock Cactusdog
