🌵Cactusheart🌵 Cactusheart padded out of his den taking in a deep breathe of the slightly chilly leafbare air. Despite it being halfway through leafbare the creek was thinly iced over and most prey still scurried about happily, but it was not as if he could complain the lack of thickness of the ice just made fishing in such cold times much easier. The camp seemed empty as most cats would be asleep at this time of morning. He smiled. It just meant he wouldn't need to talk to anyone. He padded through the camp taking in a deep breathe silently thanking Starclan for such a mild leafbare. He heard the screech of an eagle from above and he looked to the sky to see it hovering before it dived out of view, likely to catch something. He smiled again even the birds seemed to be grateful for it. As Cactusheart padded to the creek he put his paw down on it and watched as it slowly began to crumble. The water would be cold but it didn't matter much as long as he quickly caught the fish then dried off. He stomped his front paws more breaking away some more of the ice so he had more of a view of the fish and more opportunity to catch some. It seemed a bit after Cactusheart had awoken, Palestar had done the same. The obviously tired she-cat emerged from her den, her fur a bit messy and untidy. She had stayed up late that night, trying to plan patrols and wondering if the borders were safe enough. Of course, it was her deputy's job for the patrols, but she couldn't help but include herself into the topic. Despite this, she put her usual kind look on her face, the last thing the leader would want was for her clan to worry. It was her issues, and her duty to protect them. Even if that meant staying up throughout the night. With leafbare coming around, the rivers were starting to freeze up, and one thing she often stressed over was the testing of the ice. Some of it was hard enough to walk on, and some held for a few seconds before sucking you into the frosty tide... a cruel death that sent a shiver down the feline's spine. That was another thing she needed to do: Remind her clan to test the ice twice before walking over it. A growl went through Palestar's stomach, but she pushed the thought of eating away. Her clan needed the food before her, not the other way around. Still, the thought was very tempting, but just as wrong. Her thoughts dissolved as she could faintly hear the crack of ice, and the fur on her spine bristled up. With a small yelp, the petite tabby started to quickly trot in the direction of the noise, praying it wasn't a cat who had fallen in. Cactusdog

🌵Cactusheart🌵 Just as Cactusheart was about to swipe up a fish he heard paw-stepsand whipped around to see a very worried looking Palestar. Cactusheart rolled his eyes at her "I didn't fall in." he said before turning away and crouching back down waiting for a fish to swim by for him to swipe up. Palestar had seemed very jumpy ever since the Creek partially froze over the thin ice was a death trap but most Creekclan cats had a sense of when the ice was too thin bred into them since it key to their survival. Some parts of the creek weren't even frozen at all and a cat could easily wade through it if they weren't swept away by the water first. Last winter Beewing a young warrior saw a bird on the ice and when she pounced the ice cracked under her and when she tried to get off of the water she fell in. Now walking across ice was required to be taught by mentors as to avoid another incident like Beewing's. Cactusheart sniffed at the water, it smelled clean and looked very harmless but that was where it caught most cats off guard them always thinking they were safe on the water until they drowned under the ice.

Bad thoughts went though her mind as she found the river, but the voice of one of her warriors relaxed her quite a bit. "I didn't fall in." A tom named Cactusheart mewed, and Palestar blinked with surprise, and gratefulness. "Oh, thank Starclan. Sorry for worrying, I just didn't want another... Beewing incident." The white and black tabby stated, approaching the feline. "I apologies for ruining your catch like that, I just heard the ice crack and didn't know if it was a fellow clanmate who strayed out of the camp. We are low enough on warriors, and don't need to risk any more deaths with the ice." With those words the worried look in the she-cat's eyes returned, and she attempted to push away the thought of a kit being swept into the frozen creek, and gave a faint gulp. With a twitch of her ear she padded towards the edge of the bank, looking over the cracked ice carefully. It seemed to be solid to walk on, but if Cactusheart was able to crack it... She answered her own question as she moved her paw to the white surface, and pressed down with a loud snap of ice. The leader's paw went under for a moment, causing the hairs along her neck to bristle in shock, before she yanked it out quickly. Cactusdog

🌵Cactusheart🌵 Cactusheart snickered as Palestar jumped back when the ice fell away from under her. The Beewing incident was sad but know cats were more careful and often when sharing tongues they'd share where the ice was the thickest and the thinnest. Their voices always grew hushed when Beewing was mentioned as if they thought she might overhear them from Starclan. "The ice by the stepping stones and fallen log is pretty thick. I crossed it early just to be sure, but behind the nursery it's very thin almost nonexistent." he said. Today was a rather quite day compared to the rest. It seems no cat could be drawn away from their warm and comfy nests besides Palestar and Cactusheart. No that he minded the less cats to bother him the better. Cactusheart watched the water. a large fish swam by and Cactusheart unsheathed his claws quickly grabbing it whipping around quickly and throwing it onto the ground. It flopped around frantically until he dug his claws into it to put an end to it. He picked up the fish in his jaws his mouth watering and padded over to the freshkill pile and set it down. The pile was pretty full fish stacked and stacked as well as a few mice and birds. "Starclan is smiling upon us this leafbare." he called back to Palestar.

Palestar shot a glare towards her warrior towards his snicker, her tail twitching lightly. After he quieted down enough to stop his light laughter, Cactusheart begun to speak. "The ice by the stepping stones and fallen log is pretty thick. I crossed it early just to be sure, but behind the nursery it's very thin almost nonexistent." The warrior meowed. Dipping her head lightly, her mind started to think about which warriors would need to guard the camp, making sure to keep head counts. Some would say she overreacted, but it was much better to have one or two cats watching the nursery and keeping track of who came and go-ed. The white tabby gave a small shiver as one of the colder leaf-fall breezes passed through the area, her tail lowering and touching her hind leg. "Winter's going to be a harsh one this year." The leader murmured. If the river was already a bit frozen now, leafbare's ice was going to be solid as a rock. That might mean starvation, rationing of food, and leaving them scavenging for land-prey. Not that she would admit it, but the she-cat sometimes purposely sent patrols over the clan borders, to areas where she found the other clans often didn't patrol. Palestar glanced into the distance during her thoughts, her eyes flicking towards the horizon. It was going to be tough surviving this year, but she had faith in her clan to do so. Cactusdog

🌵Cactusheart🌵 Cactusheart shrugged "Always is. Especially since our main food supply gets blocked off during the worst of it."Whenever the ice became so thick they couldn't break it it was like a blow to the stomach as if Starclan wanted to kick them while they were down so when they got up they'd be more driven to fight and to survive. Cactusheart smiled as he saw another fish swim by it was a red eyed bass a rather juicy looking one too. It's base was white with greenish scales and brown fins. He unsheathed his claws and quickly tried to grab it but just as he yanked it out of the water his grip on it was lost and it plopped back into the water and quickly swam away. He hissed under his breathe annoyed at his lost catch. During times like these every bit of food was precious and just losing one like that? It made him want to rip his fur out. He huffed and turned back around to Palestar. "Maybe in Newleaf we should take some territory from Dogclan. It'd sure make next Leafbare easier." Dogclan was a bunch of rude and greedy cats that had more territory they knew what to do with yet last leafbare when they requested to have part of a territory that they never used they angrily refused. He wouldn't mind if the whole clan died of Greencough then they'd never have to deal with those idiots.
