Aspenheart's pale paws carried her over the floors of the caves. Her feet carried her from hers, on a lower floor, to the upper layer that the warriors and apprentices slept on. Further above, through a small tunnel that was just above the outcropping they used for announcements, was the leader's den. She was always jealous of the den -- the bio-luminescent moss inside gave it a lovely glow. She flicked an ear, brushing the thoughts away as she lightly entered the warrior's den. "Wolfclaw, might I ask a favor of you? I would like to visit a special place, but it is near the border, and I have been feeling poorly as of late. I would appreciate a warrior to watch over me. Not that I believe another clan would attack a medicine cat, I do not think that lowly of them, but I believe it is better to be on the safe side. Taking chances did Tawnyleaves, StarClan light her path, no good. For your troubles, I would be more than happy to share a bit of lineage I have learned? It does make for a fascinating story," she said lightly. The medicine cat was not fond of speaking for such an extended amount of time, but it seemed to be mostly necessary. Yes, she would rather explain herself. She pondered for a moment on the idea of bloodlines. Perhaps she would inform him that she was related to the mighty Pebblestar herself... or, maybe she would just inform him of standard clan heritage. She would rather tell him a bit about his, but, seeing as he was older than her... well, it might not have worked out very well. He was already a warrior when she was born, in fact. It served to mind, then, that he'd likely seen the last days of Peachstar's reign. Perhaps her family line would be more interesting. Tags: syd Notes: My aspen is a rambler <3

It was a busy afternoon, the cats of Pebbleclan coming and going from camp. You could hear the echoes of pawsteps throughout the caves as everyone went about their day.
Wolfclaw was busy cleaning himself up after accompanying a few others during a training session. They had volunteered him to be the punching bag for the apprentices, and from what happened they still had a lot to learn.
Wolfclaw's ears perked up as he heard someone else enter the warriors den. It was the clan's medicine cat, Aspenheart. Even though she was young, the tom was thankful that she was very gifted when it came to helping out. He paused what he was doing as it looked like she was coming to talk to him.
She was asking him to accompany her to a special place. Wonder where that is? He didn't mind helping out with important business.
"Uh, sure! I'm not busy. Plus it would be pretty cool to learn some new stuff." he replied with a smile, taking a quick stretch.

She dipped her head politely. "Thank you. If you like, we could stop by my den on the way out? You just look a bit bruised, but that cut on your shoulder could get infected. That would be unfortunate..." She murmured something about infection and 'alternatives', which normally would be kind of worrying if it were something serious, but with something as minor as a scratch, it wasn't really that big a deal. Her lip curled back over her teeth suddenly, and her fur puffed. "I'm sorry, I must revoke that offer. I am out of tormentil, which would normally not be an issue, but also marigold. I would hate to accidentally harm you without anything to reverse the effects. I certainly have things to prevent infection... Perhaps... perhaps I can collect some tormentil along the border..." She returned to her normal self, mumbling a bit as she led him out of the camp.
Her tail swished slightly behind her. "Oh, I didn't mean to surprise you, by the way. I'm having a troublesome day." She had a comforting purr in her throat, picking along the outskirts of the camp and slipping through the entrance into the sun. Her purr increased in volume. Aspenheart loved sunlight.

"If you like, we could stop by my den on the way out? You just look a bit bruised, but that cut on your shoulder could get infected. That would be unfortunate..." Wolfclaw turned his head to glance over at his shoulder. Wait, did I get scratched? The tom squinted, trying to get a closer look as Aspenheart told him to not mind anymore. She started explaining something about medicine to him as he slowly nodded. He didn't know what she was saying. All of the herbs and their uses was something Wolfclaw could never learn.
He followed her through the tunnels, curious about what they were up to. "Oh, I didn't mean to surprise you, by the way. I'm having a troublesome day." Wolfclaw turned to the she-cat and gave her a smile. "Nah, you're fine Aspenheart. Always a pleasure to help Pebbleclan's finest." He flicked his tail, squinting for a second as his eyes adjusted to the sunlight and he took in a breath of the fresh air. "Ahhh, nice isn't it?"

Her tail swished a little bit. "Yes, it is very nice... I find myself very lucky to have a small hole in my den that leads to the outside. At Sunhigh, I get a nice bit of warmth inside. I tend to have sick cats sleep in its ray. Fresh air is good for sickness, you know? Quite often I'll even take them outside..." Aspenheart purred in mild amusement. "Once, I had an apprentice come to me -- I believe it was when I was one myself! He could hardly breathe he was so congested, the poor thing, and I had to fetch some juniper -- it grows right here by the mouth of the camp, see? It's these berries here... but I couldn't leave him alone, and Tawnyleaves was out, so I brought him along. We were outside for just a few heartbeats and he was already feeling better! It turned out he had been so ill because he'd been cleaning out the moss in the elder's dens for a half moon after getting in trouble, but he'd hide it somewhere and mold started to grow. We were lucky the whole clan didn't get sick... air doesn't circulate in there." The silver she-cat just praddled on like that, talking about nothing in particular until she realized she was rambling. "Oh! I promised you a tale, didn't I? Silly me," she purred.
Yes, lineage was quite exciting, even for someone as young as her.

Aspenheart sure can talk, Wolfclaw thought to himself as she started telling him about fresh air and how beneficial it was to them. He couldn't blame her, he too loved to talk when it came to the things he was passionate about. "That's cool!" he purred, even though he didn't know a lot of the terms the medicine cat was using, he still found it interesting. "You are right about the air though. I love the forest so much, sometimes I question how I'm in Pebbleclan." Wolfclaw loved the open air, but also loved the coolness and protection of the clan's caves.
"Oh! I promised you a tale, didn't I? Silly me." Wolfclaw almost forgot about how Aspenheart promised him something in return for accompanying her. "Right. I love me a good story." The warrior was always scaring kits with exaggerating all of the things he's seen. He was sure the she-cat was better at it then he was had probably seen a lot more than him due to her medicine cat duties.

She purred softly at his enthusiasm. It pleased the medicine cat to see someone just as eager to learn about heritage as she was. "Well, obviously I'm not as good at it as some cats, but I'll try! Now then... For one, I'm related to Pebblestar, did you know that? Not directly of course... ah, I'm sorry, I'm not the best at remembering! The lineages might have to wait... oh! I have another! Have you ever wondered who the first cat to join Silverpelt was?" she purred, continuing to lead him along. Aspenheart wondered for just a moment why she was so bubbly and excited, despite the fact that this was not a pleasure trip she was going on. She lightly shook her head and waited for him to respond. "Wait really? That's cool." Wolfclaw purred. He wasn't the best at history, even when it came to his own clan. But he didn't mind learning new things and he found it interesting. He followed Aspenheart as they made their way to the border, sun shining bright overhead and warming his fur.
"Actually, I would like to hear that. I've never though about it." Wolfclaw meowed back. He thought had never crossed his mind. It would be a cool fact to know and Aspenheart would probably tell the story fabulously. He flicked his tail as he took in the scents around him, making sure there were no immediate threats in the area.

She purred quietly. "Well. Every kit knows of how the clans were formed, all those moons ago. But don't you ever wonder where Featherfrost and Moortail came from? See, they were from ancient clans, that existed long before us and probably still exist to this day, in some distant part of the world. Far, far away from our territories, of course! Regardless, they were founded, too. By the stars themselves. It was too long ago for any living cat to remember -- see, I learned this from the cat himself." She waited patiently to hear his reaction before deciding to continue. Truth be told, she wasn't sure of how accurate the story was. He hardly had form when she was first brought to the Mooncave. She still saw him sometimes, out of the corner of her eye, when she went to meet with the stars. Truthfully, she was surprised Lucky had lasted this long. He'd been around more moons than any cat could possibly count. syd

Wolfclaw thought back to his time as a kit and how he would sit in the elders' den and listen to all of their stories. He didn't remember much, but the names of the cats Aspenheart mentioned sounded somewhat familiar. He listened as the medicine cat told him about the older clans. He wondered if it would be possible to meet other clans if they happened to travel far enough, and what they were like. But that was a thought for another day.
"Cat himself? Like Starclan or something?" he meowed as Aspenheart finished speaking, "I know you medicine cats do some funky spirit stuff over at the Mooncave." The warrior always wondered what went on over there. He was nowhere near their level of authority to know what they did when it came to talking to Starclan, but it seemed pretty interesting.

She purred gently. "Yes, exactly. I'm surprised you haven't been there before, every PebbleClan cat I know takes every opportunity. Except you. Anyway, back to the story, hm?" They were approaching the border now, her tail waving slightly. "See, back in those times, before this cat, there were no clans. Just ragged groups of allies, family, or something worse slinking around in various parts of the forest. Their territories all overlapped, and it led to many bloody fights. Many died in those times, because they were lawless, with no Warrior Code to guide them. The cats in those times had ice in their veins rather than blood, and their hearts were instead black stones. Their claws were like adder's teeth, and they knew no kindness. They were crueler than a hunter, and three times as angry as any badger..." Aspenheart's fur was fluffed out at the thought alone, and she couldn't help but shudder. It was a horrible thing to think about. sydit's alright lel

"Yeah. I've always though about it but never really followed through. Maybe you could show me sometime?" Wolfclaw meowed. It would be interesting to finally see it after all this time. Maybe he'd get a mysterious prophecy from Starclan about something. The two cats were nearing the border, and as Aspenheart began telling her story, he took a quick whiff of the air to make sure it was safe. There was no immediate danger yet, so he sheathed his claws and listened intently.
He knew about the cats that lived with no clan. He thought it would be pretty nice to live on your own schedule, but at the same time the way Aspenheart described it made him realize he should be thankful he had a safe place to stay. "That's... harsh," the tom replied, appreciating how the she-cat could go into great detail with her stories. "And who told you all of this again?" The cat himself is who exactly?" the warrior asked with a curious tone.

Her ears perked. "Oh, yeah! I never told you his name, did I? His name is Lucky, but I doubt he'd be able to tell you himself... he's been there long enough that he's barely a shadow in the trees. Alright, aside from his current situation! So, anyway, he's born into this lawless wasteland. Cats are starving because there's too many of them to be fed by the prey, and half of them don't know how to hunt where they're living. So, everyone decides to meet up in the very middle of the forest one night, where five oak saplings sit around a big rock. When they meet here, something bad happens." Aspenheart kept along the path, her paws knowing it by heart. At one point, she took two steps to the left in order to avoid a hole without even looking. She traveled here often. The medicine cat felt her heart begin to beat a little faster, and she paused to pick up a bright red-orange lily growing along the path. syd

Lucky? Sounds like a kittypet name Wolfclaw thought to himself. Then again, the early clan cats all had one part to their name before they adapted their current naming system. He had questions about it, but would plan to ask Aspenheart later on.
"When they meet here, something bad happens." Wolfclaw's ears perked up at the medicine cat's last sentence. "What is that something? A fight?" The tom purred, getting more and more interested in the story. He kept a watchful eye over her as she went to gather some flowers, noticing a few birds a few paw steps away and the scent of a rabbit nearby. Maybe he'd catch something to bring back to camp for the fresh-kill pile.

She returned to his side, and nodded. "Mhm. They began to fight. Lucky, you see, was the first cat killed in the battle. His throat was slashed by a mighty ginger tom named Storm. As he died, he became the first star in the night sky. Many more cats died in the battle before the young StarClan decided what to do. They forced them to stop fighting, and came down from the sky. They told them to form clans, and taught them their structure. Four cats emerged. Breeze, Stream, Dark, and... Storm. Aspenheart half waited for his reaction. Hers had been shocked, to say the very least, that Lucky had forgiven him. syd
